Foucault Pendulum

The Foucault Pendulum is an instrument used to illustrate the rotation of the Earth. The French physicist J. B. L. Foucault, from whom it is named, was the first to conduct an experiment showing that the oscillation plane rotates slowly from east to west in relation to the Earth’s surface.

Scope of Work

Our work was to design and execute a complex Foucault pendulum project from the client’s idea based on given functionalities. We did the design, chose the right technologies, projected dedicated electronic circuits, programmed microcontrollers, installation, and activation. The pendulum weight is about 150 kilograms and 12 meters long, and it is swinging continuously 24/7 thanks to the innovative electromagnet system at the center. Every pass of the pendulum over the center causes the transfer of the minimum dose of energy to the whole system and keeps the pendulum moving. Moreover, every 11,25 ° change in rotation changes the indicator’s color, showing the change in the direction of the oscillations and thus demonstrating the existence of a cycle of the Earth.
